CHRISTIAN SKJØDT HASSELSTRØM
Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm is an artist and composer exploring the intersection of sound, visual art, and science.
With a deep interest in the (limited) sensory and cognitive capacities of the human being, particularly in the imperceptible, which constitutes an essential part of our relation to the world, Skjødt Hasselstrøm utilizes technology as a tool for an extended perception or cognition, with the artworks as facilitating thresholds between our sensory apparatus and phenomena. Through his work, he creates situations and spaces that aim to provide alternative ways of sensing and relating to the surroundings, proposing situations and spaces for reflection and contemplation.
Skjødt Hasselstrøm’s work has been presented at galleries, museums, festivals, and concert venues worldwide, including Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Mois Multi in Quebec Canada, A plus A Gallery in Venice, Műcsarnok Kunsthalle Budapest, Sound Reasons in New Delhi, Skan II / Skanu Mežs in Riga, Üle Heli in Tallinn, Ostrava Days in Czech Republic, Ultima in Oslo, Overgaden - Institute of Contemporary Art in Copenhagen and Museum of Contemporary Art Denmark. He has been artist-in-residence at Avatar in Quebec, Canada, EMS in Stockholm, Notam - Norwegian Centre for Technology, Art and Music in Oslo, and Inter Arts Center in Malmö / Lund University, Sweden. He has been awarded by Japan Media Arts Festival, Prix Ars Electronica, Edigma Semibreve and the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen’s Foundation, among others. Skjødt Hasselstrøm holds a Master’s degree from the Royal Academy of Music in Denmark and is currently based in Copenhagen.
